Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band Tribute

In the early years, Jerry’s music was all acoustic. It was a natural progression that the first rendition of the Grateful Dead was actually a jug band. Upright bassist Ajeet Campbell (Nipper Brothers) considers this music a return to the roots of the west coast psychedelic music scene. It demands a simplistic approach and elegant synchronicity as the players tap in at a foundational level.

Leading this band is a beloved figure in Sierra Foothills – Joe Craven (Joe Craven & The Sometimers) on fiddle and mandolin. Joe was part of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman’s live and studio recordings and later was featured in the David Grisman Quintet. He’s continued to cement his legendary status with countless sit-ins with many of the region’s top acts as well as our resident guitar ace, Jonny Mojo. Joe keeps the band connected to its authentic lineage.

Joining in on guitar is Jay Wilcox. Hailing from Healdsburg, Jay has two fantastic Garcia inspired musical projects – Lovin Dead’ and Like a Rose. He brings sweet inspiration through his vocals and guitar playing. On banjo, Kyle Kunert injects an infectious force of energy. Kyle’s band Caltucky has been lighting up the northern California bluegrass scene. The evening’s secret sauce comes in the form of Ron Kramer from the Nipper Brothers. His percussion and skillful use of vocal harmony will be the secret ingredient for this night. Join us in this musical metamorphosis as we emerge from our cocoons and spread our wings in flight.
